Lavender (lavandula angustifolia) is the most versatile of all essential oils.
Most commonly known for its relaxing effects on the body, therapeutic-grade lavender has been highly regarded for the skin. It may be used to cleanse cuts, bruises and skin irritations. The fragrance is calming, relaxing and balancing – physically and emotionally. In my view it should also be part of every first aid kit. It can;
1. Relieve stress and anxiety
Rub 2-3 drops of lavender oil in your cupped palms, then use the inhalation method to draw the scent all the way into your amygdala gland (the emotional warehouse) in your brain to calm the mind. Then, rub on the feet, temples, wrists (or anywhere) for an immediate calming effect on the body.
2. Help you to fall asleep
Rub a drop of Lavender oil on your palms and smooth on your pillow to help you sleep.There have been many research studies proving lavenders efficacy for increasing depth and duration of sleep.
3. Treat burns and bites
Lavender is one of the only essential oils you can use neat on the skin to soothe and treat minor burns and insect bites to sooth swelling and help healing. Just use one ot two drops.
4. Soothe dry skin conditions & dandruff
You can make an oil with a few drops in a cup of olive oil or other vegetable oil and rub on the area. Rub several drops of lavender oil into the scalp to help eliminate dandruff.
5. Tastes great in food!
You can use lavender in place of rosemary, it works fantastically with lamb. You can add some flowerheads to sugar to make lavender sugar & use in sponges, also it gives a great delicate flavour to shortbread. The Green Hut Company also make a fantasic blackcurrant and lavender jam!
